Boo Boo’s Bakery | Meet the Founder Behind the Plant-Based Recipe Brand

Boo Boo’s Bakery Began with a Love for Baking and Grew Into a Go-To Plant-Focused Recipe Blog

Megan (Meg) is the founder and owner of Boo Boo’s Bakery, a brand rooted in her lifelong love of baking. Influenced by her Italian grandmother and her dad’s weekly dessert requests, Meg’s passion for creating delicious treats began in her childhood kitchen. She first started selling vegan goodies like her popular truffles and donuts during college, but when the pandemic hit, she pivoted by launching an Instagram account to share her recipes with others at home. What began as a way to connect during uncertain times has since flourished into a full-fledged business. Now, five years in, she continues to grow her brand through her blog, sharing plant-focused, vegan, gluten-free recipes made with natural sweeteners like dates and maple syrup.

To learn more about Meg’s journey, the inspiration behind Boo Boo’s Bakery, and how she’s serving up healthy sweets to a global audience from her Connecticut kitchen, keep reading.

How do you ensure authenticity and trustworthiness to your clients? I’m a bit of a perfectionist (which can be both a blessing and a fault), so I test my recipes several times to make sure they are perfect before sharing. I always try to include helpful tips, tricks, and substitutions so that everyone can find success with my recipes and feel confident in the kitchen—regardless of dietary needs or experience level. And of course I’m always just a message away if anyone has any questions or simply needs a little more guidance!

What’s your favorite part of being a business owner? Oh this is a good one—there’s so much I love about being a business owner! I like to call my business my “passion project” because it’s what I’m truly passionate about. I love tapping into my creativity with long days in the kitchen (my happy place) testing and developing recipes (no-bake desserts are my favorite to make, especially my stuffed dates recipes!). But the most special part? Reading comments and reviews from people who’ve made my recipes. It brings the biggest smile to my face! To imagine people gathered around a table enjoying a recipe I created, gifting it to a loved one, or simply making it for themselves with love.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received, and who gave it to you? I’ve been blessed to have received so much wisdom and advice, but one quote that’s stayed with me is actually from a podcast with Father Mike Schmitz: “To wish that you were someone else is to waste the person you are. To wish that you had the gift of someone else is to waste the gift you have actually been given.” It’s such a beautiful reminder to honor the gifts and talents you’ve been given and to embrace your originality!

How would you describe your business? Boo Boo’s Bakery is all about helping others live healthier and happier lives through easy, delicious, plant-based recipes.

If you could offer one piece of advice to your younger self, what would it be? Trust the process and enjoy the journey!

What motivates you? Good health! I believe good food is medicine. I’m so passionate about helping others discover how nourishing your body with wholesome foods can make you feel your best from the inside out. And as the saying goes, good food = good mood, and that good energy is contagious, making the world a little bit brighter 🙂

What’s the one thing you wish you’d known before diving into entrepreneurship? You don’t have to do it all alone! Successful entrepreneurship is a team effort, and I’m so grateful for the amazing support system I have—from my incredible team to the people who cheer me on every step of the way.

How do you maintain a work-life balance while running a small business and what strategies or practices have helped you navigate the demands of entrepreneurship? Keeping a structured calendar is something I’ve implemented recently and that’s been key for me. Also, using “Do Not Disturb” on my phone to limit distractions and help me “unplug”.

What advice would you give to aspiring female entrepreneurs who are just starting their own businesses? Plant seeds and be patient. Just like a flower doesn’t bloom overnight, your business needs time, care, and nurturing. Follow your passions, lean into your gifts, and trust the process.

What is the most rewarding and most challenging part of your business? The most rewarding part is hearing how my recipes have become a part of people’s lives—whether it’s reading their reviews/seeing their remakes, or hearing stories about how switching to a plant-based lifestyle has made them feel healthier and happier. The most challenging part is recipe testing! It’s fun—until you’re on your fifth round and still not getting the result you want. It can definitely test your patience!!

What do you want to achieve in the future? I would love to have a cookbook someday. And a live cooking segment on TV would be so cool—just putting that out there!
